Eye Care and Health Camps in Haridwar

In the spiritually rich district of Haridwar, Uttarakhand, healthcare access remains a persistent challenge—especially in rural and underserved communities. Among the most pressing issues is cataract-related vision loss, which severely affects the elderly and economically disadvantaged. Lack of awareness, delayed diagnosis, and limited access to medical services often result in preventable blindness, robbing individuals of mobility, independence, and quality of life.

Recognizing this urgent need, Utthan Sewa Samiti, in partnership with the National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) under its CSR initiative, organized a vital health outreach program. Between 22nd May and 1st June 2025, four Free Health Check-up and Cataract Surgery Camps were conducted across various rural locations in Haridwar.

The initiative was designed with five core objectives:

  • Early detection of eye diseases through free screenings

  • Distribution of spectacles and essential medicines

  • Monitoring of blood pressure and blood sugar levels

  • Identification of cataract cases for free surgeries

  • Promotion of awareness on eye and general health

The community response was overwhelming. Over 1,000 individuals benefited from the camps. 800 people received free spectacles and medicines, bringing immediate relief to those with untreated vision problems. 120 cataract patients were identified and scheduled for free surgeries, offering a life-changing opportunity to regain sight and dignity.

The camps were not just about treatment, they became a beacon of hope. They empowered individuals with health awareness and reminded communities that access to quality care is a right, not a privilege. Many elderly participants shared their gratitude, emphasizing how these camps had restored their vision and renewed their ability to live independently.

This successful initiative highlights the impact of collaborative efforts between civil society and corporate partners. Utthan Sewa Samiti and NSIC have demonstrated how dedicated outreach and accessible medical care can bridge long-standing healthcare gaps.

Going forward, Utthan Sewa Samiti remains committed to expanding such programs. With continued partnerships and a focus on preventive care, these camps will continue to illuminate lives, one restored vision at a time.
